Minor Surgical Procedure

Minor surgical procedures are commonly performed for skin conditions, cysts, ingrown toenails, and other small medical concerns. Early treatment helps prevent infection, reduce discomfort, and minimise complications. We provide thorough assessments, clear explanations, and personalised aftercare instructions to support smooth recovery.

At Gordon Family Practice, we offer a range of minor surgical procedures performed safely and professionally within our clinic. Minor procedures allow patients to receive timely treatment without the need for hospital admission. Our experienced GPs follow strict clinical standards to ensure safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes.

Skin Lesion & Mole Removal

Skin lesions, moles, and abnormal growths should be assessed promptly, especially if they change in size, colour, or shape. Early removal can prevent complications and allow for appropriate medical testing if required.

  • Assessment of suspicious moles
  • Skin cancer checks
  • Excision of benign skin lesions
  • Removal of skin tags
  • Biopsy procedures
  • Histopathology referral when needed

Cyst & Abscess Treatment

Cysts and abscesses can cause discomfort, swelling, and infection if left untreated. Minor surgical drainage or removal provides relief and prevents recurrence.

  • Incision and drainage of abscesses
  • Sebaceous cyst removal
  • Infected cyst treatment
  • Local anaesthetic procedures
  • Wound cleaning and dressing
  • Follow-up wound care

Ingrown Toenail Surgery

Ingrown toenails can cause pain, swelling, and infection. Minor surgical correction provides long-term relief and prevents repeated infections.

  • Local anaesthetic procedures
  • Infection treatment
  • Post-procedure wound care
  • Preventive nail care advice
  • Follow-up appointments

Wound Care & Minor Injury Management

Minor injuries require proper treatment to promote healing and reduce infection risk. Our clinic provides timely assessment and management of minor wounds.

Minor surgical procedures are small, low-risk medical procedures performed under local anaesthetic in a GP clinic, such as mole removal, cyst drainage, and suturing.

Most procedures are performed using local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort. You may feel mild pressure, but pain is usually minimal.

In most cases, you do not need a referral. You can book a consultation with your GP for assessment.

Recovery time depends on the procedure, but most minor surgeries heal within 1–2 weeks with proper wound care.

If clinically indicated, removed tissue may be sent for histopathology testing to rule out skin cancer or other abnormalities.

Many minor procedures are partially covered by Medicare, depending on eligibility and the type of treatment performed.
