Iron Deficiency Services /Iron Infusion
Iron deficiency is a common condition that can affect energy levels, concentration and overall wellbeing. Our clinic provides comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management to help identify the cause of low iron and support effective treatment. Our GPs perform detailed evaluations to determine the underlying cause of iron deficiency and develop personalised treatment plans. For patients who do not respond to oral iron supplements or require rapid correction, we offer intravenous iron infusion therapy in a monitored clinical setting to ensure safety and effectiveness.
We provide comprehensive iron deficiency assessments and safe in-clinic iron infusions to help restore healthy iron levels and relieve symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, and reduced concentration. Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies and can significantly impact daily functioning if left untreated.
Iron Deficiency Assessment
Early diagnosis of iron deficiency prevents progression to iron deficiency anaemia and reduces long-term complications. Many patients experience symptoms for months before seeking medical advice.
- Detailed medical history review
- Evaluation of fatigue and related symptoms
- Blood tests including iron studies and ferritin levels
- Full blood count (FBC)
- Investigation of underlying causes (e.g., heavy periods, gastrointestinal issues)
- Personalised treatment recommendations
Iron Infusion Treatment
Iron infusion is recommended when oral iron supplements are ineffective, poorly tolerated, or when rapid iron replacement is required. Iron infusions are generally well tolerated and can significantly improve energy levels and symptoms within weeks.
- GP consultation and eligibility assessment
- Safe intravenous iron administration
- Monitoring during and after infusion
- Management of potential side effects
- Follow-up blood tests
- Ongoing treatment planning
Migraine Management & Vyepti (Eptinezumab) Infusion
For patients experiencing chronic migraines, we also provide consultation and referral support for advanced migraine therapies, including Vyepti (eptinezumab), an intravenous migraine prevention treatment.
Vyepti is a prescription monoclonal antibody therapy designed to prevent migraines in adults. It works by targeting CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide), a protein involved in migraine attacks. Administered via intravenous infusion every 3 months, Vyepti may reduce the frequency and severity of migraines in eligible patients.
- Chronic migraine assessment
- Review of current medications
- Preventive treatment planning
- Referral for Vyepti infusion (where appropriate)
- Ongoing migraine monitoring
- Personalised headache management strategies
What are the early signs of iron deficiency?
Early symptoms include fatigue, weakness, headaches, pale skin, and reduced concentration. Blood tests are required to confirm diagnosis.
When is an iron infusion recommended?
Iron infusion is recommended when oral supplements are not effective, not tolerated, or when rapid iron replacement is needed.
How long does an iron infusion take?
An iron infusion typically takes 30–60 minutes, with additional observation time for monitoring.
Are iron infusions safe?
Iron infusions are generally safe when administered under medical supervision. Mild side effects may include headache or temporary discomfort at the injection site.
What is Vyepti used for?
Vyepti (eptinezumab) is used for the prevention of chronic migraine in adults and is administered via intravenous infusion every 3 months.
How does Vyepti work?
Vyepti targets CGRP, a protein involved in migraine attacks, helping to reduce the frequency and severity of migraines.
Can iron deficiency cause headaches?
Yes. Iron deficiency may contribute to headaches and fatigue due to reduced oxygen delivery in the body.
How soon will I feel better after an iron infusion?
Many patients report improvement in symptoms within 2–4 weeks, although response time varies.
